Shirley is a ten year resident of a low-income housing development, and she has received LIHEAP through Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency each year. She moved to Tennessee from Michigan to be closer to family. She appreciates LIHEAP assistance since she is a sole provider.

“It is a relief to know I’ll have heat in the winter and a nice place to live,” says Shirley. “When you give up your home, you want a nice place to live when you are older and not have to worry about paying the utility bills.”

Shirley added that LIHEAP has taken a huge worry off her mind since she now has multiple medical bills due to ongoing health issues. She is very grateful for such assistance and plans to apply for it as long as she can. It has helped her maintain independent living as a senior citizen, unable to drive any longer.
